Buying a Nursery

The School Transfer Company – STC – will be happy to advise you on buying a nursery.

The founders of STC have set up and expanded their own successful day nursery – Bronte Nursery in Gravesend – so we have a realistic and current insight into the practicalities of running that satisfying and worthwhile business.

Nurseries are quite different from schools, although there are some similarities. For example, in the UK there are rigid ratios to observe for each age group. There are spot inspections pretty regularly. But equally, unlike independent schools and colleges, nurseries are eligible for a wide range of government grants and incentives. And they are encouraged to provide – at present – 15 hours of ‘free’ care at a regulated rate from the UK government.

In times of economic uncertainty, more women tend to work longer hours and nurseries often do well.
